Heather Watson set for senior international debut in Jersey |
Guernsey's Heather Watson will make her senior international debut in March's 75,000 Jersey Caversham International. Organiser of the event Hugh Raymond told BBC Radio Jersey: "I can announce that Heather will be taking part." Along with the 16-year-old, Raymond expects a host of big names: "There may well be players taking part in the Australian Open also here in March. "It's more about points for rankings than the money and to get them ready for the French Open and Wimbledon." There are high hopes that Watson, currently one of the top twenty juniors in the world, will drive attendances for the Jersey event. "She will be seeded twelve or thirteen in the juniors at this week's Australian Open - so with players like her and a few others the fans will know about, I think attendances will be up." The Jersey Caversham International starts Monday, 23 March. Coverage of the Australian Open is available on BBC One and Two and live on the BBC Sport website.
