Heather Watson did not lose a game as she made it through to round three |
Guernsey's Great Britain international junior tennis player Heather Watson has cruised through her first match at the Commonwealth Youth Games in India. Watson took just 37 minutes to beat Antigua's Shani Williams 6-0, 6-0 to make it through to the third round. Fifth seeded Watson will now face Sri Lanka's Amritha Muttiah. Muthia beat the Welsh number nine seed Sian Bayliss 6-4, 6-2 to set up the match. Muthia beat Jersey's Katie Gouyette in the first round. But there was not such good news for Nick Thibault in the men's singles. He always had a difficult task against top seeded Nigerian Emmanuel Sunday but put in a creditable performance before going down 6-4, 6-4. Meanwhile, there's been a mixed start for Guernsey's table tennis players in their opening group matches. Alice Loveridge won her first match against Ugandan, Zura Khaukha, 3-0 while Gary Dodd lost his first game to Kyle Borneo from Trinidad and Tobago, 3-1.
