Henin-Hardenne is in seemingly unbeatable form

Playing in her first Pacific Life Open final, Henin-Hardenne cruised to the title, having not dropped a set in the entire tournament.

She closed out the match with a forehand winner, before celebrating with a thumbs up to the crowd.

"I moved well and stayed calm in the second set when I was down," she said.

Henin-Hardenne added: "I love playing in these finals."

In her last outing in Doha, Henin-Hardenne was knocked out in the semi-finals by Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova.

That defeat remains the only blemish on her record this year.

The Belgian refused to let the blistering heat on Sunday stop her overpowering her much taller opponent.

She produced a dazzling mix of shots and blitzed Davenport's second serve to take the first set with ease.

Davenport broke the world number one at the start of the second set, but Henin-Hardenne surged back to 3-3 when the American missed a forehand approach shot.

Davenport served into the midday sun trailing 4-5 and in a spirited finale, her opponent needed five match points to close it out.

"It was tougher than I expected," said Davenport. "Her second serve was coming in pretty hot and it was hard to get a hit on those.

"There are only a few players that can play me the way she did."
