Seeds crash in California
Daniela Hantuchova
Former champion Daniela Hantuchova was one of seven seeds to crash out of the Pacific Life Open on Friday.

The Slovakian was defeated by Marissa Irvin of the United States, 106 places lower than her in the rankings.

Ninth seed Dokic lost her fifth consecutive match this year to Spanish veteran Gala Leon Garcia, while Slovenia's Tina Pisnik also lost.

There were no such worries for second seed Kim Clijsters of Belgium who beat Germany's Angelika Roesch 6-1 6-3.

America's Lindsay Davenport, seeded third, found the going even easier against Mara Santangelo of Italy, breezing to a 6-0 6-0 win.
