World number one Justin Henin-Hardenne overcame a slight blip to book her place in the quarter-final of the Pacific Life Open in Miami on Tuesday. The Belgian coasted to a 6-3 first-set lead over Barbora Strycova before losing her serve in the second set.
But her Czech opponent was not consistent enough to maintain the brief lead and crumbed to a 6-4 defeat in the second set.
Henin-Hardenne was joined in the last eight by Lindsay Davenport.
Afterwards Henin-Hardenne paid tribute to men's world number one Roger Federer, who moved into the quarter-finals of the men's event.
She said: "I watch him a lot and I'm very impressed. The confidence he has is amazing ... he is the best for sure."
Davenport reached the quarter-finals in Miami after defeating fellow American Meghann Shaugnessy 6-1 6-3.
Davenport will play Argentine qualifier Gisela Dulko, who beat American Marissa Irvin, 7-6 (7/3) 7-6 (7/2).
Other seeds through include Anastasia Myskina and Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia, and Spain's Conchita Martinez.
Martinez now faces Myskina and said of her opponent: "She's playing good tennis. She's hitting the ball hard. I just have to play my game and mix it up."
But Myskina's countrywoman, sixth seed Vera Zvonareva, was beaten 2-6 6-2 6-2 by France's Nathalie Dechy.
