Top seed Justine Henin-Hardenne had little trouble in reaching the fourth round of the Pacific Life Open, beating Marta Marrero 6-1 6-2 at Indian Wells. The Belgian needed only 58 minutes to overcome her Spanish opponent.
Eleventh seed Conchita Martinez beat Lisa Raymond 6-4 7-5, while Maria Sharapova knocked out fellow teenager Sesil Karatancheva 3-6 6-3 6-2.
She next faces another Russian, Anastasia Myskina, who saw off Maria Vento-Kabchi 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
