Safina reaches first final
Dinara Safina
Safina is hurtling towards the top 100
Russia's Dinara Safina reached her first WTA final with an impressive straights win over compatriot Vera Zvonareva 6-3 6-2 at the Idea Prokom Open in Poland.

The 16-year-old younger sister of world number five Marat Safin has lost only one set in six matches, after coming through qualifying.

Safina made her debut on the senior tour in April and has made startling progress since, jumping nearly 300 places in the rankings.

The teenager, a former finalist in the Wimbledon juniors, ended the hopes of second seed Patty Schnyder and eighth seed Magui Serna in previous rounds.

In the final, she faces sixth seed Henrieta Nagyova, the 1998 Sopot champion, who battled for nearly three hours against Italy's Tathiana Garbin before finally taking the match 2-6 7-5 7-6 (7-2).
