Wales handed England a hammering at Twickenham |
Wales Sevens coach Dai Rees has called for help to progress further after his side made a historic first Cup semi final appearance at Twickenham. "Winners New Zealand have been together since the last tournament, we had only two sessions before London," said Rees, whose side lost 24-7 to Fiji.
"We also need specific conditioning in strength and power to match the best."
Rees' team will be in action again at Murrayfield next week, drawn in a pool against France, Italy and Samoa.
Wales are set to be without Martyn Thomas (shoulder), Alec Jenkins of the Scarlets likely to be called up in his place.
At Twickenham, Wales were the unlikely winners of a group containing South Africa and England, handing the hosts a thumping 22-0 defeat on Saturday.
They defeated Scotland 15-5 in the quarter-finals, before crashing to a 24-7 defeat against the Fijians.
"This is our highest ever position since we came into the IRB World Series," said Rees.
"We had a terrific first day, especially the 22-0 win over England. It was the pool of death but we conquered it."
Wales squad: Jonathan Edwards (Llanelli, capt), Lee Beach (Ospreys), Wayne Evans (Blues), Dafydd Hewitt (Blues), Rhodri McAtee (Penzance), Rob McCusker (Scarlets), James Merriman (Neath), Tal Selley (Ospreys), Aled Thomas (Dragons), Martyn Thomas (Dragons), Lee Williams (Scarlets Academy), Jonathan Vaughton (Ospreys).
