Selley scored one of four Wales tries in the final |
Wales' successful start to the Sevens series continued when they won the second-tier Plate competition in George, South Africa. Coach Dai Rees' team were knocked out of the main Cup competition with a 33-7 quarter-final defeat against Fiji.
But they beat France 29-24 in the Plate semi-final and proved too strong for surprise package Tunisia in the final.
Tries from Tal Selley, Martyn Thomas, Rhodri McAtee and Alec Jenkins saw them to a comfortable 26-5 victory.
In the group stages Wales - who won the bottom-tier Shield competition in Dubai last week - secured an excellent 14-14 draw with England, James Harris and Tal Selley scoring late tries.
Wales then pipped Argentina 10-7 and overcame Portugal 17-5 to secure a showdown with Sevens aces Fiji.
The islanders lost 29-12 to New Zealand in the semi-final, the All Blacks going on to beat South Africa 24-19, a repeat of last week's final - the Dubai clash claimed by the Springboks.
Wales will sit out the next two tournaments of the Sevens series, in New Zealand and the USA in February.
But they will return for the Hong Kong Sevens at the end of March, and the following events in Australia, England and Scotland.
