Wales defeated Kenya 15-5 in the final of the second-tier Plate competition at the Hong Kong Sevens. Coach Dai Rees' team beat Portugal 31-0 in the quarter-final and Canada 29-0 in the semi-final, all played on Sunday.
In the earlier group stages, Wales had beaten Portugal 17-14 and China 29-0, but went out of the main tournament when they lost 21-17 to South Africa.
"We were very disappointed to miss out on the main Cup, so to pick ourselves up showed character," said Rees.
"I think the Welsh Rugby Union has seen the value of sevens and I'm confident we'll be involved in the whole series next year."
There are three more sevens events to come this season, but this is the last one Wales will compete in.
The campaign has been a successful return to the sevens circuit for the men in red after three years absence due to Union cost-cutting measures.
They have entered five tournaments and have won the Plate four times, including at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
The Hong Kong tournament was won by England, who defeated Fiji 26-24 in a thrilling final.
