Gareth Wyatt's career has been blighted by injury |
Newport Gwent Dragons winger Gareth Wyatt has withdrawn from Wales' 12-man Commonwealth Games sevens squad. The 29-year-old has a stress fracture in his leg which is likely to keep him out of action for three weeks.
His place will be taken by Dragons team-mate and scrum-half Gareth Baber, who is already with the squad in Australia as assistant coach.
Wales are in Group A with New Zealand, Kenya and Namibia in a 16-team tournament, which starts on Thursday.
Ospreys flanker Richie Pugh captains a squad showing a mixture of youth and experience, with the nous of Dai Rees at the helm as coach.
Cardiff Blues utility back Rhys Williams is the most experienced Wales international, with 44 caps to his name.
Wales reappeared on the world sevens stage for the first time in three years when the squad helped to kick-off the IRB World Series in Dubai in November 2005.
