James Collins puts in a tackle in a game against London Irish |
Worcester Warriors flanker James Collins has ended speculation over his future by signing a new two-year deal at Sixways. Director of rugby Mike Ruddock said: "He is a great talent who will now be aiming to get a run of games now he is injury-free. "Once again it shows the belief the youngsters have in the club and our ambition," he added. The 23-year-old has played 12 senior games for Warriors. His consistent showings have been rewarded with numerous call-ups to the England Sevens squad. | There were other clubs chasing JC so we're delighted that has seen the club as crucial to his development |
He was named man-of-the-match after an impressive performance against champions London Wasps at the start of the season. It was well known that Collins was considering offers from other clubs as he felt it was going to be difficult to oust Warriors' skipper Pat Sanderson from the starting line-up at Sixways. Ruddock said he has no problem at all with Collins looking at other options, but was pleased he had decided his future lay at Sixways. Ruddock fully expects Collins to be challenging for a more regular first-team place next season. "There were other clubs chasing JC so we're delighted that has seen the club as crucial to his development," he said. "Pat Sanderson is our skipper but we believe JC will get more game time and put more pressure on the other back row players."
