Jones has made an impression since joining as a consultant in November |
Coach Lyn Jones has signed an 18-month consultancy deal with the Newport Gwent Dragons, with specific responsibility for contact skills and attack play. "It is a privilege for me to join on a more permanent basis," said Jones, who has been there since November 2008. Meanwhile, the Dragons are hopeful of re-signing three-cap Wales wing Aled Brew on loan from Cardiff Blues for the rest of the Magners League campaign. Brew, 22, had his best season at the Dragons when on loan from the Ospreys. | 606: DEBATE |
That was in the 2006/7 season. Brew then rejoined the Ospreys for an unproductive year before agreeing a switch to the Arms Park. A knee injury has hindered his chances, and he has played for Cardiff and Pontypridd in the Welsh Premiership. Former Ospreys head coach Jones had joined the Dragons in November 2008 in a temporary consultancy role. The position had become available when Dai Rees left the role in October 2008 to take up a job as coach of the Hong Kong Rugby Union. "Lyn's contribution to the team since his arrival has been excellent," said Dragons head coach Paul Turner. "We have been glad to have been able to utilise his knowledge and passion for the game and pleased that he has agreed to continue with us for the remainder of this season and next." Jones added: "I am delighted to be able to accept a role that allows us to continue to build on the relationships and successes of recent months. "The Dragons have been good to me since I left the Ospreys and I have been struck by the down-to-earth passion for the game that is evident throughout the region. "There is a strong core of players and coaches in the region that I am sure we will build something special over the next few seasons and I hope to be able to play a small part in that success. "I would personally like to thank the Dragons and specially Paul for having the foresight and confidence to take me on in this role."
