Lyn Jones joins the Dragons staff on a temporary basis

Former Ospreys coach Lyn Jones has joined the backroom staff of the Newport Gwent Dragons in a temporary consultancy role.

Jones joins the coaching team at Rodney Parade until the end of December when the Dragons hope to have appointed a permanent assistant coach.

Dragons head coach Paul Turner said: "Lyn and I have had several discussions over the past month.

"I believe Lyn will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team."

Jones has been working with Welsh Premiership club Ebbw Vale as a consultant, which is set to continue until the end of the 2008-09 season.

The Steelmen come under the regional umbrella of the Dragons so Jones and Turner have already formed a working relationship over the past few months.

The Dragons revealed that there are 13 applicants for the position and the management team are in the process of drawing up a short list of candidates for interview.

It is intended to make an announcement on the full time appointment early in the New Year.
