Newcastle Falcons sign Kiwi scrum-half Jason Spice
Spice played in the Super Rugby for Blues and Hurricanes
Newcastle Falcons have signed former Cardiff Blues scrum-half Jason Spice on a pay-as-you-play basis.
Spice was signed on a similar basis by Leicester Tigers in November, having bought out the final year of his contract with Bristol last summer.
"He gives us experience, which we have missed," Falcons head coach Alan Tait told BBC Newcastle.
"Paul Moriarty, my assistant, knows him well from his days in Wales. He's one of those players with a bit of edge."
Tait added: "I want him to work hard with our two young scrum-halves, Chris Pilgrim and Mickey Young, because they don't get that specialised coaching.
"It'll be good for the young scrum-halves that he is here."
The 36-year-old began his career in his native New Zealand, playing in Super Rugby with Auckland Blues and Hurricanes.
He also lists Ospreys and Launceston among his former clubs.
