Bristol scrum-half Jason Spice has contract cancelled

Scrum-half Jason Spice has had the final year of his contract at Bristol cancelled by mutual consent.

The 35-year-old New Zealander joined Bristol from Cardiff Blues following their relegation in 2008.

Captain Spice was unable to inspire the club to return to the top flight as they lost the Championship play-off final to Exeter Chiefs.

And Bristol head coach Paul Hull said: "We are sorry to lose someone of Spice's experience."

Spice was a key figure in Bristol's Championship campaign, scoring six tries in 29 appearances.

Hull added: "His knowledge of the game is second to none and he was a popular character off the field.

"He, like all of us, was disappointed with how we finished the end of season and we will be sorry to see him leave."
