Director of rugby Richard Cockerill believes the experience of scrum-half Jason Spice will help Leicester Tigers.

The 35-year-old New Zealander, who has joined on a short-term deal, had been with Launceston since leaving Bristol in the summer.

Director of rugby Cockerill told BBC Radio Leicester: "Jason has initially come for four or five weeks.

"He is an experienced player and won't get fazed by coming in and playing in big games if we need him to."

Spice, who was playing on a game-by-game basis for Launceston, has also played for Cardiff Blues, Ospreys and New Zealand sides Wellington and Waikato.

The scrum-half, who left Bristol after they failed to reach the Premiership last season, will provide cover for Ben Youngs and the injured Sam Harrison.
