Hayman remains one of the world's best tight-head props |
Newcastle Falcons captain and former All Black prop Carl Hayman says he will make a decision over his future on Tyneside within the next fortnight. The 30-year-old, regarded as one of the best tight-heads in world rugby, is reluctant to make a announcement until his future is certain. "Sometime in the next couple of weeks we might have something sorted out," Hayman told BBC Newcastle. "It would be inappropriate to say too much more at this stage." Since joining the club in April 2007, the former Highlanders front row has been a force in the Falcons pack and his consistency this season has been key to the club's flirtation with the top half of the Guinness Premiership. Newcastle could still land a Heineken Cup place and remain involved in European competition so Hayman could yet decide to remain with the club for next season. | This has been coming about since I first signed a contract that at some stage I'd have to make a decision on my future and it's something that a professional sportsman has to deal with Falcons tight-head Carl Hayman |
"I've really enjoyed my time here, the fans have been great and the club has been great to play for and potentially is an option that I could be playing here next season," Hayman said. "There's an option I could be playing elsewhere so I can't really say much more about that. "This has been coming about since I first signed a contract that at some stage I'd have to make a decision on my future and it's something that a professional sportsman has to deal with. "There's a lot of other players going through the same thing, you just have to deal with it, be professional and do your job properly."
