New Leicester fly-half Derick Hougaard has praised head coach Heyneke Meyer for his man-management skills.

The 25-year-old Springbok international will challenge for the number 10 shirt after joining his former Blue Bulls boss at Leicester.

Hougaard told BBC Radio Leicester: "He's a great persons person and knows how to get the best out of everyone."

After wins against Ospreys and Western Force, Leicester kick off their Premiership at Gloucester on Sunday.

Hougaard added: "If you're going to perform week-in week-out, you need someone who can manage and I don't think there's anybody better than Heyneke Meyer.

"He's all about discipline and fitness and a great motivator, he doesn't accept second or third.

"He's a winner and so are the Tigers, they don't want to get to finals, they want to win them."

You can hear full commentary of the Tigers first game of the season on Sunday on BBC Radio Leicester.
