Jon Goodridge fighting for new Leeds Carnegie contract
Goodridge's try at London Irish was his second of the season
Full-back Jon Goodridge says he is determined to earn a new contract at Leeds Carnegie when his current deal expires in the summer.
The 28-year-old scored the winning try in Leeds' shock win at London Irish, in his first league start since October.
"I'm coming to the end of my contract and I'm fighting to earn a new deal," the former Gloucester player told BBC Radio Leeds.
"I have to prove I am good enough for them to want to keep me."
Goodridge was Leeds' first choice full-back at the start of the season, but lost his place to Leigh Hinton after the former Newport man returned from a shoulder operation.
Speaking on West Yorkshire Sport Daily, Goodridge said: "I told a few of the boys after the Irish game that it was very different being behind that defence on Sunday than the one I was behind before Christmas.
"We've certainly turned a corner with our defence.
"Going into that game, a win was all we were focusing on, but I knew it was also a chance for me as I hadn't been in the side for a long time. So to win and score a try was great."
Goodridge will hope he did enough to earn a starting spot against bottom club Worcester on Sunday at Headingley. If Leeds avoid defeat against their relegation rivals, they will secure their Premiership status for next season.
"Leigh [Hinton] took a knock against Quins so I'm not sure yet if he's got over that. But hopefully I did enough on Sunday to keep my spot. I really want to play in this game and help decided the future of Leeds.
"I think every game we've gone into this season we've been the underdogs and that might be different on Sunday. We are scrapping for our survival, as are Worcester.
"It's going to be a massive game and a very difficult game for both teams and hopefully we'll come out on the right side of the score line and keep Leeds in the Premiership."
BBC Radio Leeds' new West Yorkshire Sport Daily show is broadcast live on weekdays from 1800-1900 BST and brings listeners the latest sporting news and interviews with local sports personalities.
