Adam Lyth's 90 and an unbeaten 64 from captain Andrew Gale guided Yorkshire to a six-wicket victory over Somerset.

Set 198 to win from 56 overs, the home side looked to be in trouble when they slipped to 61-3.

But Gale, who scored a hundred in the first innings, joined Lyth for a fourth-wicket stand of 107 in 23 overs that put the result beyond doubt.

Earlier, Oliver Hannon-Dalby (5-68) took the four Somerset wickets to fall as they were bowled out for 344.

The visitors began the day on 201-6, 54 runs ahead and were boosted when Zander de Bruyn (83) and Damien Wright (25) took their seventh-wicket stand to 51 before the latter fell lbw to Hannon-Dalby.

Shortly after, de Bruyn took evasive action to a short delivery from the young paceman but the ball did not bounce as much as he expected, hit the bat and flew to second slip where Tim Bresnan dived to his right to take a one-handed catch.

But the Somerset resistance was not over and Alfonso Thomas (44) and David Stiff (40) added 74 for the ninth wicket before Hannon-Dalby removed both men to secure his second five-wicket haul in as many matches.

Yorkshire made a hesitant start to their chase, with Joe Sayers falling to a catch behind off Wright and Anthony McGrath caught in the slips off Thomas for just four.

Lyth and Jacques Rudolph (27) took the score to 61 but, even though Rudolph fell to the first ball of de Bruyn's spell, Gale arrived to calm the nerves of the home fans.

Lyth gloved Stiff to wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter to fall 10 short of a century, but Gale plundered the same bowler for three fours in the same over to end the contest and notch Yorkshire's second win in as many matches.
