Botha predicts superior Springboks
Wales centre Mark Taylor gets away from Daan Human
Wales grabbed an early lead in the first Test
South Africa v Wales in the second Test at Newlands, Cape Town, Saturday 15 June (kick-off 1405 BST).

Live on BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio Cymru.

South Africa rugby legend Nass Botha expects the Springboks to give a vastly improved performance in the second Test against Wales on Saturday.

A lacklustre opening half hour from Rudolf Straeuli's men last weekend allowed Wales to open up a shock 11-3 lead before the home side eventually got their game together to secure a 34-19 win.

But Botha, who scored 312 points for South Africa in 28 Tests, believes Wales will find it much harder to break through the Springbok defence this time.

"Looking at the performance of the Springboks in the first 30 minutes it was quite a struggle," he told BBC Wales Sport.

"After that it started looking better, and the most important aspect for Rudolf Straeuli was to win the first game.

"It's always difficult for a new coach to come in and get the team to start performing well.

"So everybody is satisfied that they won the first one and from now on they can just get better."

Coach Straeuli has made four changes to the side for Saturday's match, with the inclusion of exciting young utility back Brent Russell at full-back the most surprising choice.

Russell, who was included after full-back Ricardo Loubscher was ruled out for two weeks because of a rib injury, has yet to start a Currie Cup or Super 12 game.

It's really coming down to one thing - the team needs to perform well from the first minute
Naas Botha
Botha says it's a gamble that could back-fire badly on Straeuli.

He said: "Russell is a very lively player, but I haven't seen him playing at full-back and everyone is now waiting to see how he fits into that role.

"I'm glad to see that Andre Pretorius has got another chance at fly-half because he deserves it.

"Quinton Davids played well in the Super 12 for the Stormers so it's good to see him back as well.

"But it's really coming down to one thing - the team needs to perform well from the first minute.

"If you play against New Zealand, Australia and England and give them so many opportunities in the first 30 minutes, you might be trailing by too many points and won't be able to come back."
