Reynolds said the injury is likely to mean the end of his playing career

Jordan Reynolds, the 29-year-old player-coach of Guernsey Rugby Club, faces an end to his playing career after injuries to his right leg.

Reynolds suffered ligament damage to his right knee and ankle during the island side's victory over London Cornish on Saturday.

He said: "[The doctors] have said the ligaments are definitely torn in my knee and ankle.

"I'm going to have to sit on it now for a few weeks and see how it turns out."

The scrum-half, who is waiting for further x-rays and a MRI scan, is no stranger to injury.

He explained: "It was the same time last year that I broke my ankle, but this one's a bit different to the other ones because the doctors have said I probably won't play again.

"I've actually been told three times I wouldn't be able to play again, but this one I think because it is the second time on my knee... I'd rather just put it to rest than wake up when I'm 40 and not be able to walk at all.

"I've had a fortunate time with rugby, I've been lucky enough to represent Australia and do great things and won Siam Cups and stuff like that. It means I can just concentrate on the coaching now."

He said if Guernsey can gain promotion from London Two South West it would be "a great last hurrah".
