Reynolds said the "passion and desire" was missing from some of the players |
Guernsey's player-coach Jordan Reynolds has questioned the commitment levels of some of his first team squad. Reynolds' side went down to a 24-10 defeat by Old Reigatian in London Two South West on Saturday. He said: "There's a lot of guys that looked like they didn't want to be there, they didn't have their heads in the right aspect for the game. "I think three quarters of us put in a major effort in that game - I think a couple of guys let themselves down." During the match Leighton Batiste was sin-binned for 10 minutes for allegedly throwing a punch. Reynolds said Batiste and the rest of the team would have to regroup ahead of the next game. He said: "He knows he was in the wrong, but when you play against teams like Old Reigatian, [London] Cornish, Trojans and guys like that you need your 15 guys on the park. "You can't afford to be playing with 14 because it is a big weight on your shoulders, especially when the front row goes off and your scrum takes a massive blow. "It's one of those things he's going to have to sort through himself and try get back in the game for next weekend." Fortunately for Guernsey their nearest rivals Guildford also lost at the weekend, going down 16-11 to Effingham and Leatherhead. It leaves the island side three points clear of Guildford and five from Trojans at the top of the league table with four fixtures left to play.
