Bedford Blues hope to hide 'full hand' - Brendan Burke

Bedford full-back Brendan Burke has urged the Blues to keep teams guessing during the Championship league stage.

The Blues face potential play-off rivals Bristol and Cornish Pirates either side of the new year.

And former Leinster player Burke, 29, told BBC Three Counties Radio it is important the Blues do not give too much away.

"You don't want to show your full hand in the games, but then again you still want to win," he said.

"We might have to play Cornish Pirates again in the play-offs and you don't want to show them your full hand."

Mike Rayer's men have been impressive so far this season, with a seven-game unbeaten run taking them to second in the table.

So far this season we've hit our targets, if you ask the players where they want to be around Christmas time, this is where you want to be

Leaders Worcester were the last side to beat the Blues in an 28-18 victory at Goldington Road nine weeks ago.

And Burke, who has shrugged off the concussion he picked up in the Blues' last outing against Moseley, says the squad are delighted with their form.

"At the start of the year we said we wanted to be second or third, we knew Worcester were going to be a top quality side," he added.

"So far this season we've hit our targets, if you ask the players where they want to be around Christmas time, this is where you want to be."

Bedford are confident the Boxing Day clash with Bristol will go ahead, but have issued a plea for volunteers to help clear snow off the pitch on the morning of the game.
