Vagabonds earn first away victory on the season

Douglas vs Warrington
Douglas' victory at home to Trentham was their second of the season

Vagabonds beat Glossop by a single point on Saturday to earn their first away victory of the South Lancs/Cheshire Division one season.

The Manx side led 15-12 at half-time thanks to tries from James Hammal and Leigh Kennaugh, who also kicked a penalty and a conversion.

Glossop fought back in the second-half and led 17-15 with minutes to play.

In the last minute of the game, 'Vagas' earned themselves a penalty which Kennaugh slotted to seal the points.

The win is their first on the road for over 18 months.

Captain Leigh Kennaugh told BBC Isle of Man: "It wasn't the greatest game of rugby but we really ground it out.

"We only had seventeen in the squad to travel, so everyone had a part to play in the win. We need to keep it going now and build on these results."

Meanwhile, Douglas and Ramsey both won their division two matches to make it a great day for Manx teams.

Douglas battled their way to a second win of the season with a 27-20 home win over Trentham at Port-e-Chee.

Despite the much needed victory they remain 12th in the table.

Ramsey controlled their game with Southport from start to finish at Mooragh Park and ran out comfortable 41-3 winners.

The northerners sit sixth in the table after gaining promotion last season.
