Marcel Garvey has now run in five Championship tries this season

Marcel Garvey's late interception try ensured that Championship leaders Worcester won the battle of the top two against Bedford at Goldington Road.

Kickers Andy Goode and James Pritchard had exchanged blows with the boot in a tense contest, to leave the scoreboard reading 18-18 with two minutes left.

But Goode edged Worcester ahead when he landed a drop goal.

And Garvey's last-minute score, Goode converting, put the seal on the 100% Warriors' eighth straight win.

Garvey's try was his fifth of the campaign, taking him level with fellow winger Miles Benjamin as the Warriors top scorer this season.

Former England stand-off Goode's drop goal was his third of the afternoon, setting a new club record, while equalling the league record in the process.

His 23-point haul ensured that Warriors cement their lead at the top of the Championship.

Worcester are now seven points clear of London Welsh, who leapfrog into second thanks to their 68-22 win at Moseley, Bedford dropping to third.

Warriors head coach Richard Hill told BBC Hereford & Worcester:
"We should have won by a lot more and, in the last quarter of an hour, it was a bit tough. But if we look at it in the cold light of the day we were considerably better than Bedford, which is pleasing.

"We were not clinical enough to put away the chances we should have done.

"But we had two tries held up over the line and one which we knocked on in the second half.

"We had most of the play and dominated most of the possession. We dominated the scrum, dominated the set piece and gave them very few opportunities."
