Bedford Blues coach Nick Walshe eyes Worcester scalp

Bedford Blues backs coach Nick Walshe is hoping his side's good form can culminate with victory over Championship leaders Worcester.

The league's top two square off at Goldington Road on Saturday.

Walshe told BBC Three Counties Radio: "We'll have to be at our best to beat these guys.

"We're going to need things to go our way, things to click and a have bit of luck. I believe we have a chance of beating them if we play well."

Since being relegated from the Premiership the Warriors have swept aside all seven of their Championship opponents, scoring 259 points in the process.

Former England scrum-half Walshe knows the Blues, who have only been beaten once themselves, will need to pull out a season-best performance to take the spoils.

"We're going to have to defend absolutely massively and it's a huge challenge for us," he said.

We want to be known as a team who are hard to beat, who can win on the road and who can win a tight game if we need to

"If we had won only two out of seven games I think it would be a huge, important game.

"We're six from seven, second in the league and going OK. The last couple of weeks I don't think we've been at our best, which is a positive because I still think there's more to come."

Mike Rayer's side have been building on their reputation as an entertaining outfit with some flowing rugby at times this season.

But Walshe, who arrived at Goldington Road in 2008, says being pleasing on the eye is not top of his agenda.

"Of course we want to be known as a team that throws the ball around but we're not doing it just to entertain," he added.

"I feel this is what suits us and what gets the best out of the guys.

"We also want to be known as a team who are hard to beat, who can win on the road and who can win a tight game if we need to."
