Stirling has guided the Pirates to fifth in the Championship table |
Cornish Pirates high performance manager Chris Stirling has said his side will continue to improve as the season progresses. The Pirates ran in six tries during a convincing 47-19 win over Championship rivals Nottingham on Sunday. Stirling told BBC Cornwall: "There's no reason why we can't keep continuing to develop and get even better. "We're still a long way to go from our best, so as long as we keep moving in the right direction we'll be happy." Sunday's win in Camborne over Nottingham followed an equally impressive victory over local rivals Plymouth Albion the previous weekend. The Pirates claimed their first win at the Brickfields in over four years on 13 February, beating Albion 13-9 in the British & Irish Cup. And Stirling said the positive effect of beating both Nottingham and Plymouth in successive weeks is already evident within his squad. He said: "Consistency will breed confidence, and the confidence will actually feed on the belief, and the belief the boys have got is starting to grow." The Pirates are currently fifth in the Championship standings with just one fixture of the regular season remaining before they enter the end of season play-offs.
