England U20s suffer loss in Japan

Exeter Chiefs prop Ben Moon and the England Under-20s lost 44-28 to New Zealand in the IRB Junior World Championship final in Japan.

Moon, 19, was a key figure in England's progression to the final at the Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium in Tokyo.

New Zealand ran in seven tries during the final, with two apiece for wing Zac Guildford and fly-half Aaron Cruden.

England scored tries through lock James Gaskell, number eight Carl Fearns and replacement Dave Lewis.

Moon appeared in every round of the tournament as England topped their group before beating South Africa 40-21 in the semi-finals.

England's coach Mark Mapletoft admitted that his side had been beaten by the better team in the final.

Mapletoft said: "Overall, it was closer than last year and we've certainly made strides in some aspects. To score 28 points was obviously a positive but it was equally disappointing to concede seven tries.

"I'd have to say the score was a fair reflection of the two teams but on the plus side, we could have capitulated but didn't."
