Guernsey have won three of the last four Siam Cups |
Jersey host Guernsey at St Peter for the annual Inter-insular clash played for the second oldest rugby trophy in existence, the Siam Cup, on Saturday. Jersey currently play two divisions above Guernsey but it is the Sarnians who have won the last two fixtures. Guernsey captain Simon Sharrott told the BBC: "We're the underdogs but that doesn't mean we aren't confident." Jersey's head coach Ben Harvey said they are not favourites: "We've lost three of the last four, it's kidology." Sharrott is stepping out as captain for the first time in a Siam Cup but admitted it is very much a team effort. | It tugs at the heart strings, it means a great deal to the island Jersey head coach Ben Harvey |
"There's some very important senior members alongside me such as Nick Barton, Blair Campbell and Jordan Reynolds," he said. "They're the boys I've got to rely on out on the pitch to support me and make the decisions along side me." Guernsey have not had the best season in London Three South West, finishing mid-table but Sharrott said: "You can't compare a Siam game to the leagues." Harvey also sees the game as something different: "It tugs at the heart-strings, it means a great deal to the island. "We're trying to be the best side we can and whatever game we're faced with we'll try and do the best we can."
