Truro College have been crowned the top rugby school in England after winning the Daily Mail RBS Schools Cup.

Truro beat Gloucester's St Peter's School 39-18 at Twickenham to take the title to Cornwall for the first time.

American youth international Hanno Dirksen scored two tries on his 18th birthday to send Truro on their way.

England youngsters Tom Cowan-Dickie and Josh Matavesi, also scored tries along with centre Herbie Stupple while Matavesi also kicked five points.

Truro took a 5-3 lead after Cowan-Dicke was forced over early on before Matavesi kicked a drop goal and Ben Hawke added two penalties to make it 13-6 at the break.

St Peter's got back into it early in the second half after their England winger Reuban Haile crossed over to make it 13-11.

But that was as close as St Peter's got as Stupple increased the lead before Dirksen scored his two tries with Matavesi splitting them with one of his own while St Peter's prop Levi Smith touched down for a consolation try.

"We scrummaged well, our set pieces went well in general and our backs played above themselves," coach Will Davis told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"They were dangerous right up until the end and they scored a try in the last five minutes but the boys have trained really hard for this."

And Davis was overwhelmed by the support the team had with eight bus-loads of supporters coming up from the college as well as many others coming up in their own cars.

"The number of people here watching us from Cornwall in general and the amount of calls we had wishing us well has been simply outstanding. It was a marvellous experience," he said.
