Gary Sawyer's late header earned Plymouth Argyle a crucial win over fellow strugglers Blackpool.
Sawyer's winner came with four minutes left when he met Paul Gallagher's corner and glanced the ball home to secure a deserved victory.
The Pilgrims had chances to go ahead with Gallagher shooting over and Karl Duguid heading wide.
Debutant Lee Hughes shot just wide for the home side while Charlie Adam also had a goal disallowed for handball.
Blackpool boss Tony Parkes: "We started very slowly and did not get into the game - we got what we deserved.
"We have always been in the relegation mix but it would have been nice to have taken some points today.
"We are disappointed but we need to get down to business as we look to local rivals Preston next week. We are still in a decent position and I'm sure we can get out of this mess."
Plymouth manager Paul Sturrock: "Our front two were always causing problems and that was nice to see.
"Survival is now in our hands. Our away form has been championship-winning.
"Other results have gone our way and it will be nice to pick up another three next week which should see us in the clear."
