Vagas win boosts survival hopes

Rugby Union

Vagabonds ended their run of six straight defeats in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One with an impressive 20-15 win at home to Wirral.

Despite playing into the strong elements in the first half, the Manx champions led 12-8 at the interval.

Loosehead Ben Wood and number eight Brian Kennaugh scored the tries and Jonny Beckly added a conversion.

A second-half try from Keiran Leaver in the corner and another Beckley penalty were enough to win Saturday's game.

Meanwhile, in Division two, Douglas went down 17-10 at Southport.

Despite a battling performance, tries from Bryn Snellgrove and Sam Randall were not enough to take anything from the game.

Elsewhere, Ramsey went down 7-5 away at Capenhurst in only their second defeat of the campaign.
