Southern Nomads beat Emerging Nomads 27-12 in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield on Saturday to move within a point of the title with two games to play. Steve McHugh got Nomads off to an excellent start and flanker Ross McCulloch bagged a brace to put the seniors on the way to victory. The Emerging Nomads were awarded a penalty try before the interval, which Dave Edge converted to make it 22-7. But James Hammal went over late in the second half to seal it for the seniors. Meanwhile Ramsey B moved into second place, with a 29-11 win over Castletown at Poulsom Park. A converted Chris Penketh try gave Ramsey a 7-0 lead but Town hit back with two Sam Peel penalties to leave the game finely balanced at half-time. Ramsey cut loose in the second half, however. Penketh picked up his second try of the game and there were also tries for Andy Wilson, Gareth Hooson-Owen and Chris King. Dan O'Connor crossed for Castletown's consolation score. Vagabonds B saw their slim hopes of a Manx Shield title slip away when they crashed to a 30-10 defeat at Douglas B. Douglas led 18-5 at half-time after two tries from debutant Mike Hebden and a conversion and two penalties from Bryn Snellgrove. Daryn Thompson picked up a try for Vagas to keep them in the game. In the second period, Douglas pulled away with Rhey Sharpe and Ryan Maddox crossing the Vagas line, plus another conversion from Bryn Snellgrove. Andre Pretorious bagged a late try for Vagas to keep the scoreboard looking respectable.
