Ramsey B maintain title challenge

Rugby Union

Ramsey B kept their title dreams alive with a 8-7 win over Douglas B in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield on Saturday.

Douglas led 7-0 at half time through a spectacular solo try from Ray Sharpe which Gareth Hooson-Owen converted.

Ramsey used the wind to their advantage in the second half and the pressure paid off when scrum half Chris Penketh sneaked over for the five points.

A late penalty for Ramsey skipper Darren Ideson stole the points from Douglas at the death.

Meanwhile Nomads very nearly caused a big shock when they narrowly lost 19-17 to Vagabonds B at King Williams College.

Damian Brand's try plus debut tries from Dave Horan and John Wolster Junior gave Nomads a flying start.

Vagas hit back with tries from Rory Dillon, Mike Caley and Mark Thomas but the game was decided by conversions with Vagas' Danny Williams hitting two to Dave Horan's one for the Nomads.
