Ian Lougher will be riding for AIM Yamaha at all the major international road races in 2009. This will include both the Senior and Superbike TT events and the defence of his Solo title at the Southern 100. "I'm delighted to sign for AIM," said Lougher. "They're an excellent team and their development programme has produced an enviable record of results. "I'm confident our Superbike package will be capable of winning and I can't wait to get going," added the Welshman. The coming year will be the popular rider's 28th season of racing and the Superbike race on Saturday 6 June will be his 100th start. | In Ian Lougher, we have acquired a rider of the utmost professionalism, with success and experience to match AIM Yamahas' Alistair Flanagan |
In that time the 42-year-old has won eight titles, including last year's 250cc event on the Billown Circuit. In 2008, Lougher claimed the Southern 100 Championship for the second consecutive year and the fifth in total, eclipsing the legendary Joey Dunlop's tally. AIM Yamahas' Alistair Flanagan said: "In Ian Lougher, we have acquired a rider of the utmost professionalism, with success and experience to match. "I've no doubt that Ian and the 2009 AIM Yamaha Racing R1 Superbike will be an impressive combination."
