Good speed but no luck for Knight

David Knight
Knight was on the BMW Motorrad Motorsport G 450 X machine

David Knight missed out on a fifth consecutive victory at the Tough One Enduro in Shropshire on Saturday.

Making his debut for the BMW Motorrad team, the 30-year-old had opened up a 45-second advantage when a simple clutch problem forced him to retire.

The Douglas-born man said: "I'm really disappointed but my speed was good - easily good enough to win the race.

"I'm more disappointed for BMW than myself because I really wanted to win this one for them."

The reigning US GNCC champion added: "This will be the only extreme event I'll race in before the start of the world championships, so it's frustrating not to win but everyone at the team is working hard."

The race was won by Polish star Taddy Blazusiak with Tom Sagar second and Wayne Braybrook third.

Knight has never previously been beaten at the demanding two-hour race.
