The Steam Packet International Southern 100 Road Races will have a revised race programme in 2009. The event will start on Monday, 13 July and run for four days with the prize presentation taking place in Castletown Square on Thursday evening. The 'Friendly Races' will, as in recent years, start on the Monday with a full evening's practice and qualifying. Tuesday though sees a change of schedule, with racing preceding practice and an additional 600cc event. There will be three races in total on the Tuesday instead of two as the organising committee has made the decision to include a second eight-lap 600cc race, due to the demand for entries in this class. Wednesday sees the traditional four-race programme, with Forgotten Era machines being permitted into the Classic event for the first time. The race will be divided into two classes: Class 1 - 300cc to 850cc Classic Machines and Class 2 - 230cc to 1000cc Forgotten Era Machines. Finally, Championship Day Thursday will have six races, including the show piece Solo and Sidecar Championships.
