The launch of the eighth Manx Youth Games took place on Monday at the National Sports Centre in Douglas. Between now and May children on the island will have the chance to take part in 11 sports, including athletics, girls' football and badminton. Badminton co-ordinator Roberta Cannell told Manx Radio: "The Youth Games are very important to sport on the island. "We spotted Josh Green and now he's playing badminton for England and going from strength to strength." In the previous seven years 10,000 children have taken part in the scheme. Sports development officer Zoe Carney told BBC Isle of Man: "The Manx Youth Games are a great opportunity for children on the island to get involved in sport or try something new." Children can choose two sports to start with before selecting their favourite in February.
