Alan Paver column

...we had to train out on the field this week instead of the 'rubber crumb' we have become accustomed to of late. I can only describe it as resembling World War One. All we needed were some slightly deeper trenches and some Germans!

Welcome back to this weeks 'blog'. I hope the rain we've had hasn't got you too down this week.

I'd like to start with a little bit about this week's game.

Manchester, who are currently at the foot of the table, made the long trip to Camborne on a soggy Sunday afternoon.

They put forward a spirited performance given the conditions. We controlled the majority of the possession in the first half and played some good, controlled, intelligent rugby. Despite the heavy pitch, we managed to score three tries in the first half.

Going in at half time we were hoping the floodgates would open especially given the strong tail wind we were about to play in front of. But this was not to be.

A lacklustre second half saw us limp home with five tries to two, having attained the bonus point.

Off the pitch, last week saw Dicky Evans make the long trip from Kenya back to Penzance. Leaving the sunnier climbs to face the harsh English winter! Luckily for him, he gets to go back there!

The reason for his trip was a serious one. With the Pirates on the dawn of entering the newly entitled 'Championship', Dicky held a meeting in the town hall in Penzance to outline the direction we need to go in, in order to be a success.

The meeting was extremely well attended by supporters from right across the county. The meeting was a positive one and everyone left, looking forward to a bright future.

Unfortunately we had to train out on the field this week instead of the 'rubber crumb' we have become accustomed to of late. I can only describe it as resembling World War One. All we needed were some slightly deeper trenches and some Germans!

Looking forward to Rotherham we'll be trying to better our position in the league. The next three weeks will be a big test of our squad and Rotherham will give us a good taste of what's to come.

Unfortunately for me, I won't be partaking as I'm still injured. This is a real shame as I have family in Rotherham and it would have been good to see them.

Hopefully I'll be back soon though and I'll be able to give you some first-hand accounts on some more Pirates wins!

Grind on,

Paves.
