Coach Davey takes rap for defeat

Brett Davey
Brett Davey says it was his coaching decisions which cost Pirates a win

Cornish Pirates assistant coach Brett Davey says his decisions were the reason his side threw away a 10-point lead at Nottingham on Sunday.

The Pirates led 19-9 with 15 minutes to go but went down 23-19 at Meadow Lane after they conceded two late tries following three substitutions.

"I thought the players were fantastic but I thought they got let down by their coach," he told BBC Cornwall.

"I take responsibility for making decisions, that's the way it is."

Davey said that the late changes to the side were part of the Pirates' plan for the game, but that it did not pay off.

"I'm big enough an man enough to take responsibility for the decisions you make," he added.
