Nicky Griffiths scored the Pirates' sole try at Meadow Lane on Sunday
Cornish Pirates threw away a 10-point lead with 15 minutes to go as they went down 23-19 to Nottingham at Meadow Lane on Sunday.
The Pirates led 19-9 after 65 minutes thanks to a try by scrum-half Nicky Griffiths and a conversion and four penalties from Rhys Jones.
But with 10 minutes to go Nottingham were awarded a penalty try after a scrum collapsed close to the try-line.
Deep into injury time Dan Montagu sealed the win after being forced over.
Glenn Delaney, Nottingham director of rugby told BBC Radio Nottingham: "Our scrum performance was what we won the game from and I thought all the front row boys were exceptional.
"But we didn't build our way into the game particularly well - we needed to use 80 minutes of game time to get the momentum.
"It was not the way we intended to play but we'll take the result."
Nottingham's scrum-half Tim Usasz suffered a shoulder injury in the first half and is expected to be out for eight weeks.
