Drewett must re-group his men for the visit of Cornish Pirates on Saturday |
Exeter Chiefs director of rugby Pete Drewett says there is still a lot to play for despite his side losing the top of the table clash at Leeds. Second-placed Chiefs lost by two points at Headingley, their second loss to Leeds this season, to go eight points behind them in the table. "There's four months of rugby to go and 13 games, that's an enormous amount of rugby for ourselves to play," he said. "Everybody's still got to work hard to do as well as they can." While Drewett refuses to believe his side are out of the title race, and with it the chance of promotion to the Premiership, he does concede that he needs help from other sides in the league. | Credit to Leeds, they dug deep to get the result but I think as a club we should be very proud of the players |
"With so many games to play all we can do is concentrate on each Saturday, try and keep winning and see what happens," he told BBC Radio Devon. Drewett's side led for much of the game before Leeds fought back with a controversial try. "It was a great effort by the whole squad today and it'll be very interesting to have a look at the tape and see whether they did score their try or not," he said. "It was a very close game, an outstanding game of rugby, and there were those two or three wining moments and I thought we were very close to getting a result today. "Credit to Leeds, they dug deep to get the result but I think as a club we should be very proud of the players in terms of the progress they've made in their second year of professionalism," he said.
