The Cornish Pirates have released former Wasps lock Joe Beardshaw from his contract.

The 32-year-old has been unable to resume playing since seriously injuring his knee against Launceston just before last Christmas.

Beardshaw made his debut for the Pirates in August 2005 and built up a formidable partnership with Heino Senekal in the pack.

He was part of the side which won the EDF National Trophy in April 2007.

"We would like to go on record in thanking Joe for his service to the club, both on and off the field, throughout his time with us, where his conduct and effort have been exemplary," said Pirates' chief executive Rod Coward.

"It is very much regretted that Joe has not recovered from the injury, which he sustained almost 12 months ago and we wish him and his wife every success for the future," he added.
