Clive Stuart-Smith column

We were happy with some aspects but as we grow as a side it is important that we are pragmatic as it is sometimes one mistake that can swing a result your way, or against you.

This weekend was an opportunity to really push on from last weekend and it was great to see some faces involved for the first time this season.

The injured guys work extremely hard to get back fit and some of the sessions are more intense than a game, leaving the participants struggling to stand and rather dizzy.

A particular favourite is what goes on in the swimming pool ridiculously early on a Wednesday morning.

A member of the public thought she was must have won the lottery and one of her dreams of swimming with dolphins was about to come true.

The stark reality was that it was Chris Bentley and Tony Yapp doing under water exercises in the deep end, every now and again coming up for a gasp of beloved air.

There is nothing worse than getting up at the crack of dawn to find yourself 20 minutes later very nearly drowning in water, whether you are sea dwelling or not.

We got away to a confident start at Newbury, scoring early, but knew it was still going to be a difficult afternoon.

Our set-piece was of a really high standard and the consequence was that it laid the foundations for our game but also it starved them of possession.

We built on this securing the win and the bonus point however we are disappointed with the fact that we conceded 20 points and let them briefly back into the game.

Moving on to this weekend, we host Coventry who have been improving game by game. Testament to that is the seven tries they scored last weekend so will be arriving full of confidence, eager to get a result.

As "Movember" continues we are going to have a random spot test this week as there are a few whispers that some lads have been shaving their stubble, trying to look respectable.

The majority have taken it to the extreme with an array of styles on show (friendly mutton chops, painter's brush, handlebar, lampshade or a toothbrush can be seen). Some are trying to be inventive although a slightly hairy, distorted map of Italy on your right cheek is probably not the best look.
