Exeter Chiefs ran in six tries for a comfortable 37-20 victory over Newbury Blues to temporarily go top of the National League One table.

Chiefs centre Paul McKenzie touched down after four minutes, with prop Chris Budgen and winger Sean Marsden also going over in the first half.

Early in the second period centre Tom Bedford went in for Exeter's fourth try to secure a bonus point.

Newbury fought back, but the Chiefs never looked like losing their lead.

The Chiefs were replaced at the top of the table on Sunday when Leeds Carnegie scraped a 25-23 win over the Cornish Pirates at Camborne.
