Hull Kingston Rovers are on course to build a new stand in time for the 2012 season after securing new funding. The club have been handed £4.2m from Hull City Council towards a £6.5m scheme to build a stand and 40 business enterprise units. Chief executive Mike Smith said: "The whole of Hull will benefit greatly from this development." The shortfall is expected to be made up from the European Development Fund who will consider the proposal in February. Smith added: "From a club point of view this decision further strengthens our Super League franchise application for 2012-2014." Rovers recently signed a contract with the NHS to create a health and lifestyle centre inside the club's east stand.
