Hull KR fans call for Craven Park investment
A Hull KR fans group is calling on Hull City Council to invest in Craven Park and update its facilities.
The demand has been made by a group called East Hull Crusaders and backed by a 10,000-signature petition.
Spokesman Mike Joyce told BBC Look North: "In 2002 the council made available £43m for the KC Stadium [home of Hull KR's local rivals Hull FC.]
"I'm thinking that somewhere down the line East Hull deserves that sort of sponsorship," he added.
Although making no commitment to invest in the stadium, the local authority leader Carl Minns has agreed to meet the organisation.
Labour MP, Karl Turner , whose constituency includes Craven Park said: "We are in an age of austerity but it's telling that Councillor Minns has agreed to meet supporters.
"It's good news for the supporters and those who have been raising the petition."
The council raised the £43m to build the KC stadium from the sale of shares in the local telephone company Kingston Communications.
It was built to house both football team Hull City and rugby league team Hull FC but both had to vacate their original grounds as part of the deal.
Hull KR have made some upgrades to Craven Park since their elevation into Super League in 2006 but still have scope for further improvements including covered seating in parts of the ground.
