Hull Kingston Rovers are close to securing the funding for a new North Stand at their Craven Park Stadium. Rovers chairman Neil Hudgell has told BBC Radio Humberside that the ground is in need of updating. He said: "The stadium is not where we'd like it to be. It's not a premier sporting stadium. "We're sorting out some funding but I'd say fundamental to making progress up the league ladder is some simultaneous progress to the infrastructure." The Robins' Craven Park ground has a current capacity of just over 10,000 but the design plans for the new North Stand include an extra 2,500 seats and a host of other facilities housed in the structure. | 606: DEBATE |
Hudgell added: "We have plans for the North Stand and some other areas in Craven Park and we're expecting that to come to fruition over a period of between two to three years." Since gaining promotion to the Super League two years ago, the club has seen its attendances grow from under 3,000 to an average of over 8,000. The Robins smashed the attendance record at the ground at Craven Park three times last season - culminating in their first ever five-figure crowd against local rivals Hull FC on the last day of Super League 13.
